With little fanfare and no downtime, IUCC completed the upgrade of our international links to 2x 100Gb/sec.
The first was an upgrade of our 40Gb/sec link from Petach Tikva to Frankfurt and was complete right before Rosh Hashana (the Jewish New Year).
The second 100Gb/sec link was installed on Monday Oct. 9, at the height of the ongoing war with Hamas in the Gaza Strip. This link was moved from being a 40Gb/sec link from Tel Aviv to London to be a 100Gb/sec link from Tel Aviv to Marseille. The logical connection was carried out remotely by the IUCC’s Network Operations Center (NOC) and GÉANT.
As a member of GÉANT, IUCC must ensure that undersea cable connectivity provides multiple paths via different cable systems, to avoid any single point of failure. This is what enables Israel’s National Research & Education Network, operated by IUCC, to meet volatile capacity demands and with the GÉANT network behind it, deliver essential connectivity for academic research.
